AB 3082 : In-home supportive services.

AB 3082 was authored by Assemblywoman Gonzalez Fletcher to address the prevalence of sexual harassment in in-home supportive service (IHSS) employees. We find ourselves in a prominent moment in history where the voices of harassment victims are ringing loud and policies are being enacted to protect those affected by this widespread injustice. IHSS providers are a critical part of our public support system and work in vulnerable positions, usually one on one in a patient’s home. Because of this vulnerability, more policies must be put into place to recognize and address sexual harassment within the field.

This bill, sponsored by UDW, will require the Department of Social Services to develop educational statewide materials about sexual harassment and the prevention thereof. The legislation requires this information to be made available to IHSS providers and recipients and a proposed method for uniform data collection to identify the prevalence of sexual harassment in the IHSS program.

The bill was signed into law by Governor Brown on September 30th.
